El premio Grammy al mejor video musical de formato largo es un importante reconocimiento que se entrega durante la ceremonia de los Premios Grammy. Esta ceremonia, establecida en 1958, honra a los artistas, directores y productores que crean videos musicales o programas de música de alta calidad y larga duración.

La Academia Nacional de Grabación de Artes y Ciencias de Estados Unidos otorga estos premios. El objetivo es destacar los logros artísticos y la excelencia técnica en la industria de la grabación. ¿Qué es un Video Musical de Formato Largo?

Este premio se enfoca en producciones audiovisuales musicales extensas. A diferencia de los videos musicales tradicionales, que son cortos, esta categoría premia trabajos que duran al menos veinte minutos.

Generalmente, los videos de formato largo incluyen documentales sobre giras, grabaciones de conciertos completos o películas conceptuales. El premio reconoce la complejidad y el esfuerzo detrás de estas grandes producciones.

La Evolución y Nombres del Galardón

Cuando se creó en 1984, el premio se llamó inicialmente Mejor Video del Álbum. En 1986, el nombre cambió a Mejor Video Musical, Formato Largo. Desde 1998, se le conoce con su nombre actual.

Hubo un breve cambio en los criterios en 1988 y 1989. Durante esos años, los premios se entregaron bajo categorías separadas: mejor concepto de video musical y mejor interpretación en un video musical. Sin embargo, los galardones regresaron a su formato original en 1990.

Los cantantes Madonna y Sting comparten el récord de la mayor cantidad de premios ganados como artistas en esta categoría, con dos victorias cada uno.

El director David Mallet es el único director que ha recibido más de un Grammy al mejor video musical de formato largo. Él ganó su primer premio en 1992 y un segundo en 1995.

El dúo británico de pop rock Eurythmics fue nominado tres veces sin conseguir la victoria. Sin embargo, Annie Lennox, miembro de Eurythmics, ganó el premio en 1993 por su video Diva.
