El Premio Mercury (conocido en inglés como Mercury Prize) es un importante premio de música que se entrega cada año al mejor álbum de Reino Unido e Irlanda. Fue creado en 1992 por la Industria Fonográfica Británica y BARD. Este premio se pensó como una alternativa a los Premios Brit.

A lo largo de los años, diferentes empresas han patrocinado el premio. Al principio, fue patrocinado por Mercury Communications. Después, lo patrocinaron Technics, Panasonic, Nationwide Building Society y, desde marzo de 2009, Barclaycard. Actualmente, se le conoce como "Hyundai Mercury Prize" por su patrocinador.

La lista de álbumes nominados se anuncia en julio, y la ceremonia de entrega del premio suele ser en septiembre. Cuando un álbum es nominado o gana el Premio Mercury, sus ventas suelen aumentar mucho, especialmente si el artista no era muy conocido antes.

Un grupo de expertos, que incluye músicos, periodistas y otras personas importantes de la industria musical del Reino Unido e Irlanda, son los encargados de elegir a los nominados.

Hasta ahora, PJ Harvey es la única artista que ha ganado este premio más de una vez. Lo ganó en 2001 y de nuevo en 2011. También fue la primera mujer solista en recibir el Premio Mercury.
