Primeros años y familia
Blythe Katherine Danner nació en Filadelfia, Pensilvania. Su padre, Harry Earl Danner, era un ejecutivo de banco. Su madre se llamaba Katharine Kile.
Blythe tiene un hermano, Harry Danner, quien es cantante de ópera y actor. Su cuñada, Dorothy "Dottie" Danner, también es artista y directora. Su medio hermano materno, William Moennig, se dedica a fabricar violines.
La familia de Blythe tiene raíces de diferentes lugares, incluyendo Alemania, Inglaterra e Irlanda. Su abuela materna era una inmigrante alemana.
Educación y comienzos en la actuación
En 1960, Blythe se graduó de la George School, una escuela secundaria cuáquera en Newtown, Pensilvania.

Activismo ambiental
Blythe Danner ha estado involucrada en actividades relacionadas con el reciclaje y la conservación del medio ambiente por casi treinta años. Ha participado activamente en organizaciones como INFORM, Inc., Environmental Advocates of New York y la Environmental Media Association. Después de que su esposo falleciera de cáncer de laringe, Blythe se unió a la organización sin fines de lucro Oral Cancer Foundation. Desde entonces, ha aparecido en programas de televisión y ha dado entrevistas para crear conciencia. El Fondo Bruce Paltrow Oral Cancer, administrado por la Oral Cancer Foundation, recauda dinero para investigar y tratar este tipo de cáncer, especialmente en lugares donde no hay suficiente atención médica.
También ha participado en comerciales para Prolia, un medicamento usado para tratar la osteoporosis.
