Lee Joon-gi nació en Busan, Corea del Sur. Su familia está formada por sus padres y una hermana menor. Estudió actuación en el Instituto de las Artes de Seúl.
Servicio militar y salud
En Corea del Sur, los hombres deben cumplir con un servicio militar obligatorio. Lee Joon-gi lo realizó desde el 3 de mayo de 2010 hasta el 16 de febrero de 2012.
El 18 de abril de 2022, su agencia, Namoo Actors, informó que Lee Joon-gi había dado positivo en una prueba de COVID-19. Por precaución, detuvo sus actividades y siguió las recomendaciones de salud para recuperarse.
