Descripción: Mortgage bond for $500, issued by Antonio Santa Anna on 28 June 1866 during his exile in New York and signed by his own hand. The bond depicts his palaces and estates, which were mortgaged as security. Santa Anna wanted to finance his return to Mexico with this bond in the total amount of $750,000. The graphic design of this certificate was intended to give the impression that it was an official U.S. government bond.
