Archivo: Silk Mill by Derwent
Descripción: Derby Industrial Museum - The Silk Mill. This was built in 1718 by George Sorocold for John Lombe to throw silk by the secret process smuggled out of Italy. Only the stone arches in the undercroft and the tower are original. The mill was substantially rebuilt following fires in 1826 and 1910. It is claimed to have been Britain's first factory. It now houses the Industrial Museum but that is to close for an unknown period at the end of March 2011.
