Descripción: The SESAME Centre is set for inauguration on 16 May 2017. An integrated endeavour by scientists and governments of the region, the SESAME Centre is modelled on CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research and was developed under the auspices of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. SESAME members include, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, the Palestinian Authority and Turkey. SESAME International Research Centre. Allan Area, Salt City, Jordan. April 2017 The SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East) Centre, is a “third-generation” synchrotron light source in Allan, Jordan, near Amman. The synchrotron facility is the Middle East’s first major international research centre for science applications. It is set for inauguration on 16 May 2017. The Centre will focus on fostering innovative scientific and technological research in subjects ranging from biology, archaeology and medical sciences through basic properties of materials science, physics, chemistry, and life sciences.
The IAEA provides significant support to the Sesame project in training and sharing expertise, as well as facilitating the networking of SESAME staff with other global research facilities, thus enabling possibilities for scientific exchanges.
