Descripción: Pyramid of the Sun, (one of the Largest on Earth), Teotihuacan, Mexico The Pyramid of the Sun is one of ancient Mexico's largest structures. It is nearly 61 metres (200 ft) high and 213.4 metres (700 ft) wide. The Pyramid was built on top of a cave which was discovered in 1970. The cave is over 91 metres (300 ft) long and ends in the shape of a four-leaf clover, with four chambers. In ancient Mexico caves represented passageways to the underworld, but were also thought of as the womb of the earth. The pyramid originally consisted of four stepped platforms, a surmounting temple, and the Adosada platform, which was built over what was originally the principal facade of the pyramid. No information about the temple itself is yet available, since, along with the upper-most portion of the pyramid, it has been completely destroyed. If you're not afraid of a few stairs (around 250), the views from the top are excellent.
