Descripción: Diagram for en:Evolution of sex. Sex helps the spread of advantageous traits through recombination. The diagrams compare evolution of allele frequency in a sexual population (1) and an asexual population (2). The vertical axis shows frequency and the horizontal axis shows time. A population initially contains the independent alleles a and b. Two advantageous alleles of a and b occur at random (A and B). The advantageous combination AB arises rapidly with recombination (1), but must arise independently in (2).
