Description: Built 1908. 9.7 litre 6 cylinder engine 6-cylinder, 9657 cc, 171 bhp top speed 92 mph or 148 kph coachwork open racing body registration BE3 In the winter of 1907/08 Austin built a team of cars to be entered in the French Grand Prix. Two of these had chain drive and two shaft drive but both the shaft drive cars crashed in practice and parts were amalgamated to build a "fifth" shaft drive car. This is the car on display Many parts were shared with the 60 hp touring car and this vehicle was no match for its Continental opposition
