Descripción: Memorial to the National Hero Capitán Don Vicente Moreno Baptista (Antequera, January 7, 1773 – Granada, August 10, 1810). History of the memorial. In July 1908 and again February 1909, the City Council of Antequera decided to honour the memory of Captain Moreno, to commemorate the first centenary of his elimination by the napoléonic régime then represented by Sébastiani. The joint project presented by architect Daniel Rubio Sánchez (1883 – 1968) for the socle, and sculptor Franscico Palma García (1888 – 1939) for the statue, was adopted in April/May 1910. By July, the socle was already completed. Temporarily surmounted by a provisional model for the statue (the scarcity of bronze having, allegedly, delayed its manufacture), the monument was inaugurated on August 10, 1910. Eventually, the bronze was cast and the monument as we know it today was inaugurated on December 8, 1920, in the Paseo del Rey, at the North-Western entrance of the town. End of 2012, the monument was translated to its present location, the whole process being completed on December 14.
