Description: William Oswald Hodgkinson Arrived in Australia for the second time in 1859 at the age of 21. In 1860 he joined the Burke and Willis expedition and was the second in command of the McKinley expedition in 1861. From 1874 to 1876 he was the member for Burke electorate and led an expedition to the Diamantina country. He served as a Warden and Police Magistrate on several goldfields. From 1887 to 1888 he was the Secretary for Works and Mines and the Minister of Mines and Public Instruction from 1890 to 1893. He died 23 July 1900. (Description supplied with photograph).
