Descripción: Processing gold at La Luz Gold Mine. The town of Siuna, Nicaragua was the site of La Luz Mining company, which was active from 1936 to 1968. There was migration from other areas of the country to work in the gold mine during these years, including people from the coast and indigenous groups. The mine was shut down in 1968 due to damage of the Ei River Hydro Electric Plant.[1]

Créditos: Allen Drebert Family Photos 1957-1961 while uploader was a child, and his father was employed as an American in technical support (heading Mines maintenance shop[2]) of the La Luz Mine gold mine. (See this and upload note: here. Some photos in the group attribute the father as the author; others the uploader as age 11 in 1959.) Most of the families photos were probably taken by the father of the uploader and were scanned digitized and uploaded after they passed into the hands of the uploader as part of his fathers estate. Several in the months long project were far more recent photos (ca 2008) with EXIF data, taken during a revisit to the region as an adult. These coincide with the beginning uploads.
