Archivo: Palestinian Christian Scouts celebrating the Eve of the Epiphany (Paramony) at Bethabara 2008
Descripción: Palestinian Christians celebrating the Eve of the Epiphany (Paramony) at Bethabara (near Qasir al-Yahud in West Bank, approx. 5 km East of Jericho) where, according to the Eastern Orthodox tradition, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River. The ceremony is held according to the Old calendar (followed by the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem) on January 5, which is January 18 in the Gregorian Calendar. The riverside site where the baptism is believed to have taken place is located in what has been a closed Israeli military zone since the Second Intifada (September 2000). The Israeli authorities allow pilgrims access in the Eve and on the Epiphany days.
