Descripción: Title: "A New Mape of ye XVII Provinces of Low Germanie, Mended a New in Manie Places. Anno 1626." A map of the Seventeen Provinces of Low Germanie (Low Countries, Netherlands). Made by the English cartographer John Speed (1552-1629). It shows the 17 traditional provinces of the Netherlands, which encompasses the modern day countries of the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg. The Seventeen Provinces existed between 1543-1585 as imperial states of the Habsburg Netherlands. The top vignettes include city views of Amsterdam, Antwerp, Ghent, Middelburg, Groningen, Zutphen, Utrecht and Atrecht. The vignettes on the left and right sides are inhabitants in traditional costume. On the left side are: "A Gentleman", "A Brabander", "A Hollander", "A Fisher Man" and "A Contreyman". On the right side are: "A Gentlewoman", "A Brabanders Wife", "A Hollanders Wife", "A Fishers Wife", "A Contreywoman". The present map is from Speed's Prospect Of the Most Famous Parts of the World (London, 1627). This edition was published in 1676.
