Archivo: La Gran'mere du Chimquiere and St Martin's church - geograph.ci - 139
Descripción: La Gran'mere du Chimquiere and St Martin's church. One of a pair of carved granite menhirs, the other at Castel church. Both are about 400 years old, but this one at the entrance to the churchyard at St Martin has been re-carved, possibly in Roman times. The statue was broken in half in the C19 and is now held together with a metal spike <a title="http://www.bbc.co.uk/guernsey/content/articles/2007/02/28/gran_mere_du_chimquiere_feature.shtml" rel="nofollow" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/guernsey/content/articles/2007/02/28/gran_mere_du_chimquiere_feature.shtml">Link</a><img style="padding-left:2px;" alt="External link" title="External link - shift click to open in new window" src="http://s0.channel.geographs.org/img/external.png" width="10" height="10"/> . The church is much younger, although it has its origins in 1048 and was built in the C13. The dedication is to St Martin de la Bellouse.
