Descripción: Visigoths in Spain. Judila. Circa 631-633 AD. AV Tremissis (1.42 gm). Eliberri mint. +IVDILA REX, facing bust +PIVS ELIBERI, facing bust. Cf. Miles, HNSM II 278; cf. C&C 247. EF, tiny edge crack.Judila was a usurper in Baetica, an area in southern Spain. His exact identity is uncertain, but he most likely was Geila, the brother of Suinthila. According to the acts of the 4th Council of Toledo, which are dated to 5 December, 633 AD, Geila "was excommunicated and deprived of his property because of his faithlessness to his brother and to Sisebut." This coin is only the second recorded example of Judila's coinage from the Eliberri mint. The location of the first, found in the La Capilla hoard, was not known to Miles. A unique specimen from Emerita is the only other known issue of Judila.
