Descripción: Lescar, (64) southwest France has one of the most beautiful cathedrals in France. An eleventh century roman style building, very simple and inspiring, built on a hill facing the Pyrénées mountains. Dating back to the first crusaders, it is a fortified cathedral designed to protect the local people from the raids of the scandinavian Norsemen who destroyed the old city of Beneharnum some decades before. It was then renamed Lescar and was the religious center of the Béarn county and then Navarre kingdom for centuries. It is no longer the siege of a bishop and is only a local parish but is has a wonderful atmosphere of quiet and devotion that is worth visiting!
