Archivo: India Catalina Statue, Cartagena, Colombia (24527547921)
Descripción: The India Catalina statue on the Avenue Venezuela at the edge of the Historic Center, Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. This statue commemorates a native girl who was kidnapped by the Spanish at about age 8, then trained to speak Spanish. As a young adult, she returned to Colombia and neighboring lands with the Spanish to help convince the indigenous tribes that the Spanish were their friends. Some locals think India Catalina is a traitor as she sold out her fellow tribespeople for the Spanish. No one knows how India Catalina actually looked. The statue design is an European view of what a perfect woman would resemble. January 2016
