Descripción: Amakiki, Hemignathus virens, is referred to as "the characteristic bird of the wet ohia forests of all the Hawaiian islands." It can be seen among the bright red flowers of the ohia trees in these areas. This bird is endemic to Hawaii, that is, it is of a type unlike any other that exists elsewhere in the world. It has (at least) one song that it dispenses from a perch and, also, a different song when in flight.
