Description: Silver gelatin dry plate glass negative in portrait format. The image depicts two men felling a gum tree (eucalyptus tree). The tree is depicted in the foreground in the centre of the image. Two men are depicted, one on the left and one on the right side of the tree. The man on the left side of the tree is standing on a cantilevered wooden pole wedged in a pocket cut into the side of the tree, known as a springboard. He is facing the camera but his head is turned towards the tree and he is holding an axe which is embedded in the tree. A second similar wedge can be seen below the man, a jacket and a hat are hanging on the end of the wedge. The second man, on the right side, is standing on a piece of wood which is propped against the tree by another piece of wood. He has his back to the camera and is swinging an axe over his right shoulder. A hat can be seen near his left foot. The background of the image depicts a bushland / forest environment.
