Description: Douglas DC-3 in The Henry Ford Museum. The DC-3 at the museum was never owned by Northwest Airlines. Prior to is "renovation" by the museum, it was owned by North Central, then Republic. When it was turned over to the museum, the aircraft was owned by North Central Airlines; at no point in the airplane's history was it owned by Northwest; they only paid for its renovation, so as a "sop" to corporate kindness, the museum allowed it to be painted in Northwest's colors. After the restoration, this DC-3 should have been repainted back to its original North Central Airlines livery. "728" was at one time the highest flight time DC-3 in the world. After its line service was over, it became an executive transport for Republic Airlines. After retirement, it was flown to the museum.
