The lion or is taken from the previous arms of the former district of Dillingen and symbolise the former County of Dillingen and the bailiwick of Höchstädt as well. The black lion is taken from the arms of the former district of Wertingen and the fleur-de-lis was descended from the arms of the city of Dillingen.
