Description: The arms were granted on January 25, 1970. The dragon was taken from the old arms of the former district of Worms. The vielle is taken from the arms of the city of Alzey. Both symbols also refer to the Nibelungenlied, one of the medieval epic poems of Germany, which plays in the area. In the poem Siegfried kills a dragon and there is a character called Volker, who plays the vielle.
