Descripción: The Cuyahoga County Courthouse was constructed in 1906-12 in the Beaux Arts style, and was designed by the firm Lehman & Schmitt. The structure was built as part of the Daniel Burnham Group Plan that laid out the city's Civic Center in 1903, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, along with other buildings in the Civic Center area. The fifth courthouse to serve Cuyahoga County, the structure sits at the edge of a bluff overlooking the city's harbor and Lake Erie, and is prominently located and a highly visible landmark, mirroring Cleveland City Hall across the central axis of the Civic Center park. However, the prominence is somewhat diminished from its original status, as the building has seen the addition of a large rear parking garage along the edge of the bluff, along with the construction of FirstEnergy Stadium on the lakefront. Today, the building is home to some functions of the Cuyahoga County government, but it has been supplemented with a large Brutalist 1970s Justice Center Complex across the street in order to contain the growing size of the county government in the 20th Century.
