Descripción: Mashpee, Massachusetts, April 5, 2012. George Baker, Chief of the Town of Mashpee, Massachusetts Fire Department, uses a drip torch to light the south end of a controlled burn at the Town of Mashpee Holland Hill Barrens area of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge. The chief wears lightweight fire-resistant fire gear for work in the woods and carries a protective fire shelter on his belt. The burn reduced fire risk to neighboring homes and improved habitat for the New England cottontail. It was conducted by the Town of Mashpee, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, State of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and Northeast Forest and Fire Management.
