Descripción: The Calyx-Krater, a ceramic work created and painted by an unknown Roman artist known as "Near the Policoro Painter" in about 400 BC. A krater is a bowl for mixing wine and water. It is a "red figure" work, a highly advanced form of ceramic painting. This particular work also features additional red, yellow, and white color, which makes it highly unusual. The scene is from the play "Medea", by the Athenian playwright Euripides. Medea ascends into heaven in a snake-driven chariot, while the bodies of her dead sons lie on the altar below-right. Her husband, Jason, who abandoned her looks on in horror form the lower-left. Cleveland Museum of Art.
