Descripción: Photograph, Old Jesuit monastery from tower of basilica, Quebec City, QC, about 1870, Livernois, Silver salts on paper - Gelatin silver process - 12 x 19 cm. The building was built in various parts between 1647 and 1731 in Québec. It was originally a school, the Jesuit College, at the time of the French administration. After the British invasion, the British expelled the Jesuits, closed the school and the building was used as barracks for British soldiers. Later, it was used for storage of archives. It was demolished from 1877 to 1879 and, on the site, the present City Hall of Québec was built in 1895 and 1896. It must not be confused with the modern Jesuit college built in 1935 and named collège Saint-Charles-Garnier.
