Descripción: Built in 1931-1935, this Collegiate Gothic Revival-style building was designed by Philip L. Small, Inc. to serve as the centerpiece of a new campus built for the Jesuit-affiliated John Carroll University, which was moving from an urban campus in Ohio City to suburban University Heights. The building features a hipped slate roof with front-gabled end wings, red brick cladding, an orthogonal central tower, known as Grasselli Tower, with corner octagonal buttresses, an open belfry featuring gothic arched openings with tracery, a limestone parapet with a screen featuring tracery, a clock face on the west facade of the tower, a large gothic arched opening with a large curtain wall on the first and second floor of the tower below an oriel window, loggias with gothic arched openings and crenellated parapets flanking the tower, wall dormers, awning windows, a limestone base, the rear Kulas Auditorium with a stage house featuring a recessed gothic arched panel with geometric limestone trim on the rear facade and buttresses on the side facades, and breezeways between the building and the adjacent Boler School and B Wing buildings. The building is a contributing structure in the John Carroll University North Quad Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. The building is the centerpiece of the John Carroll University campus, a major anchor of the Cleveland suburb of University Heights.
